There’s something about the cold weather and holidays that makes everyone pair up like they’re ready to board Noah’s arc. The worst part is, if you’re relationship-less it seems like every other person is paired up. As part of the population entering 2012 alone, make the most of it. It can be sad if most of your friends are spending a lot of time with their significant others, but don’t drag yourself into a depression.
Because Amour Creole cares about your happiness we’ve enlisted the help of our resident relationship expert, Jessita Herriot, to help you single ladies and gentlemen survive this season. These tips aren’t simply for surviving New Year’s Eve. Valentine’s Day will be here sooner than you think, and you don’t have to be in a relationship to be happy.
DON’T watch love stories on TV if it’ll make you feel bad. Steer clear of any made for TV romantic movies. Seeing all of the movies with happy endings may only make you feel worse. If you’re in the mood for a movie, watch a comedy or mystery flick.
DON’T allow just anybody into your space if you detect that you’re feeling lonely. This may lead you to lower your standards prematurely. This will also help you avoid any one-night stands with strangers you meet at a party.
DO take this time to reflect on what you desire, such as whether or not you want to be in a long term relationship. Being single provides the perfect opportunity to reflect on your expectations and goals in life. Take this time to make yourself the best person you can be. If you are looking for a long term relationship pay close attention to the previous “don’t.”
DO spend time around nurturing friends who are single and satisfied with their lifestyle. These friends will help you cope better during the holidays. You can even plan a fun night out together. If you’re adamant about meeting someone, attend events designed for singles like a singles cruise. Attend with your single friends so you’ll have someone to turn to if things get uncomfortable.
DON’T eat food as a means of comforting yourself, but for nourishment only. Using food as an emotional crutch can lead to obesity.
DO look your absolute best this season, so that you will be able to feel your best. There’s no denying that a great looking outfit can boost your self-confidence. Take advantage of the seasonal sales and get yourself something nice. You deserve it. This doesn’t mean you should max out your credit card.
