No-Cost Fun for Families

Want to get some quality family time to reconnect with the kids? Convince your children to turn off the television and video games with these no-cost activities.     Also make sure that line is first on the main “Health and Well-Being” page, right now it starts with a tip and makes no sense.   Cross out some nouns, verbs and adjectives in a story book. Then have the family replace them with random words of the same type. The new story is guaranteed to score laughs with your family. Create an at-home bowling alley with juice, soda or milk containers. Hit the “pins” by rolling an unopened soup can. Bake sugar cookies, including mixing, rolling, cutting the dough with cookie cutters and decorating the cookies. Create a kazoo by poking pencil holes into a toilet paper roll, covering one end of the roll with wax paper held by a rubber band, and blowing into the other end of the roll. For a toddler, hide a toy in a room and give the child simple directions to find it. One example would be, “Go in the living room and find the teddy bear on the sofa.” As your child gets … read more

Amour Creole’s Person of the Month

Name: Antonio Lauradin Occupation: Singer, Songwriter, Musician Age: 31 Hometown: Port-au-Prince, Haiti Ethnicity: Haitian   Explain your journey to where you are now in your career.     Entertaining has always been a part of my life; my father was a musician and radio personality at Radio Soleil in Haiti. So I wasn’t surprised when I picked up a guitar and taught myself how to play, write and produce. My music career as a singer-songwriter-musician started when I performed live for the first time at a talent show; and the feeling on stage plus the reaction of the crowd and being able to connect with people at this ultra-dimensional level was a reinforcement of my calling. Music is in my blood and as long as I’m alive, the journey continues.   How did your Caribbean upbringing contribute to your success?   My Caribbean upbringing contributed to my success in every aspect, from a cultural standpoint to my everyday way of life. I even categorize my music as Caribbean Folk or Caribbean Groove. When I’m writing songs or arranging sounds I think about the struggles and the joy that Caribbean people experience and this stems from my own memories of growing … read more

Tidy men get more sex

Research shows that men who do housework have happier love lives Who would have ever imagined that keeping a tidy house could help give couples that extra kick in the bedroom?     Research suggests that husbands who vacuum, dust and sweep are happier, healthier, have better sex lives, and are much more likely to stay married.   Scientists hoping to uncover what makes a healthy relationship found that men who help around the house actually have better relationships, according to the University of Washington’s The Family Formation Project.   Women’s greatest fantasies are finally coming true.   The theory is that couples who exhibit more acts of kindness, like folding the laundry for a mate, have longer lasting relationships. The study showed that happy couples had more positive interactions than negative interactions by a 5 to 1 ratio.   So next time your hubby empties the dish washer or offers to pick up the kids from school, be sure to give him

Four reasons why women cheat

Relationships can be stressful to say the least. Sometimes, they’re so stressful that it can lead even the best intentioned women to stray down a dangerous path of infidelity that neither they nor their partners see coming. Here are four things that can lead a woman to cheat.     Rough transitions If a woman is faced with a sudden change in her life, maybe a death or job loss, she may seek comfort with someone new to distract her from the reality of what’s going on in her life.   “If it is graduating, turning a certain age, losing a parent or advancing the relationship status, women become introspective,” says Renne Lee, a relationship expert with a masters in psychology.   “Even if it is something she wants, such as just getting engaged or graduating, the transition can stir up an array of emotions about where her life is going or where she is in it. The discomfort of change can trigger an impulsive desire to find someone to take her focus off the change and be a diversion for what she is going through.”   Lack of appreciation When women feel unappreciated in their relationships, sometimes they seek … read more
