Beat the “Single In the Winter” Blues
There’s something about the cold weather and holidays that makes everyone pair up like they’re ready to board Noah’s arc. The worst part is, if you’re relationship-less it seems like every other person is paired up. As part of the population entering 2012 alone, make the most of it. It can be sad if most of your friends are spending a lot of time with their significant others, but don’t drag yourself into a depression. Because Amour Creole cares about your happiness we’ve enlisted the help of our resident relationship expert, Jessita Herriot, to help you single ladies and gentlemen survive this season. These tips aren’t simply for surviving New Year’s Eve. Valentine’s Day will be here sooner than you think, and you don’t have to be in a relationship to be happy. DON’T watch love stories on TV if it’ll make you feel bad. Steer clear of any made for TV romantic movies. Seeing all of the movies with happy endings may only make you feel worse. If you’re in the mood for a movie, watch a comedy or mystery flick. DON’T allow just anybody into your space if you detect that you’re feeling lonely. This may … read more
“OLETA ADAMS SINGS FOR HAITI at C2C’s January Concert”
2nd Annual C2C Benefit Concert Brings “Hope and A Future” Acclaimed recording artist Oleta Adams remembers seeing commercials for Ajax laundry detergent as a child in which a knight on a white horse sweeps into the homes of apron-clad but iron-fisted women to help them with their household chores. This colorful vision of “coming to the rescue” of people in need is much more than an ad campaign or fairy tale to this chart-topping gospel, soul and jazz singer. It is the inspiration that runs throughout her rendition of “Get Here,” the chart topping Brenda Russell song that became the unofficial anthem of the Gulf War in the early nineties – an ode to fighting soldiers and the families they left behind. “The worst thing that can ever happen to people is to feel that there’s no hope,” Adams said. “For the people of Haïti, life practically stopped. There are many stories where people have been in hopeless situations but they clung to something deep inside them that made them feel there’s a miracle or a change coming.” Providing that feeling that normalcy can be restored is central to the message she’ll convey when she comes to Brooklyn … read more

Carimi Anniversary Concert, Reader Review Part 2
When I arrived to Amazura, the time was about 11:40 a.m. and there was a line growing outside and already 300 to 400 people already waiting for the party to heat-up. At 12:28 a.m., Nu Look took the stage dressed in black aside from colorful ties. Dancers, who changed costume several times, even hit the stage. Nu Look’s sound was crisp and fiery. The biggest hits with the audience were clearly new tracks from the album Confirmation, including “Wasn’t Meant to Be” and “A qui la faute.” Nu Look stopped twice during their performance to pay homage to Carimi, even calling Mickael to the stage so the audience could sing “Happy Birthday” to the band. At this point, the crowd included well over 1500 guests. Nu Look completed their set at 1:27 a.m. Two hours of good music and the crowd was eager to see what was coming. After a jamming interlude with DJ Skatz,, DJ Bobby Jamz told the crowd that the band we all had been waiting for and had grown to love, was about to hit the stage. Then, a dark stage was first taken by dancers dressed in neon trimmed outfits and holding … read more
Savvy Vacation Diet Tips, Lesson 1
A bikini body is a year-round commitment, so don’t fall off the wagon with one short summer trip. With these tips you will feel proud and healthy and, we think, have an even more spectacular trip. LESSON 1: EARN YOUR DESSERT. Walk Enjoy where you are, see the sights and … burn calories! Book your hotel 1/4 to 1/2 mile away from the restaurants, shops and night life at your vacation destination. This will give you a built-in walk a few times a day. Often nothing feels better then a walk on a full stomach! Walk on the beach. The sand offers a perfect surface – easy on your joints and extra calories burned! Feel free to get creative – use a water bottle or two to add resistance to your stride or to do bicep curls and tricep extensions. Vary your intensity to work in some quick and easy intervals. Intervals will boost your heart rate and maximize your time. Walk in the water. The added resistance from the water will increase your burn and keep you cool. Swim Cool off, play and … burn calories. Lap swimming is an excellent total body … read more
