Some of the jazz world’s most iconic and legendary musicians are set to perform at the Saint Lucia Jazz, in May 2010.The ten-day celebration will take place from May 01 to 09, beginning with fringe events, and climaxing with a four-day line-up of powerhouse performances on the main stage, from May 6th to 9th. The line up this year includes Earl Klugh, Jean-Luc Ponty, Maxi Priest, Steel Pulse, Foreigner, Carimi (Haiti), Harvey Millar, Monty Maxwell, Carl Gustave and Teddyson John. Speaking ahead of the official UK launch of Saint Lucia Jazz, which coincides with the World Travel Market currently taking place in London, Tourism Director Louis Lewis stated, that this was just the start of yet another incredible line-up for Saint Lucia Jazz. The Saint Lucia Tourist Board is in the process of finalizing contracts with some other world renowned artistes.

This is part of the Franco-Haitian cooperation to strengthen security in the country. It also marks the willingness of French and Brazilian authorities to conduct joint operations in Haiti, said a statement from the Embassy of France in Port-au-Prince, sent to Amour Creole. France and Brazil are responding to a request by the Haitian Government and backed by the UN Mission for Stabilization in Haiti (MINUSTAH) to foreign ministers of both countries, Bernard Kouchner and Celso Amorim, at their visit to Haiti in September 2009.

AIDS has killed 25 million people worldwide but new infections are slowing sharply, the UN said in an annual report on the crisis Tuesday that mixed hope with a warning against complacency. Almost 60 million people have been infected by the HIV virus since it was first recorded but prevention programmes are having a significant impact, the UNAIDS agency said in its latest report, released here in Shanghai.Around two million people died of the disease in 2008, bringing the overall toll to around 25 million since the virus was first detected three decades ago. Michel Sidibe, UNAIDS executive director, told a Shanghai news conference on the report’s launch that the number of new human immunodeficiency (HIV) virus infections has been reduced by 17 percent over the past eight years.”The good news is that we have evidence that the declines we are seeing are due, at least in part, to HIV prevention,” Sidibe said.
